Land of big sky and bigger adventure

Montana boasts the best trout fishing streams in the continental United States. As one of the premier adventure locations in the nation, the state also offers the perfect setting for families and groups looking for diversification… Rafting, canoeing, biking, back country trips, golf, wildlife viewing, horseback riding and, of course, fishing are all available in close proximity. A rafting or back country trip affords the opportunity of seeing elk, deer, bear, eagles, osprey, beaver, moose and even Bigfoot. Yes, we really do have guests who swear the have seen this legendary beast.

Our preferred base camp is a ranch located 30 miles east of downtown Missoula on Rock Creek, one of Montana's premier blue-ribbon fisheries. The ranch is over 160 acres large and features private access to the creek as well as being in close proximity to other renowned fishing rivers, including Clark Fork, Blackfoot, Bitterroot, Flint Creek, Fish Creek and Lalo Creek. Superb cycling and hiking trails offer hours of adventure along the river or on one of the many logging roads and trails in the immediate area.

A Triple Dare adventure to Montana is customized to offer accommodations under the stars or in lodges with Old West history and lore, natural spas and a picturesque cowboy atmosphere. For well over a decade, we have organized custom horseback trips and float trips for a day, overnight and up to two weeks. Other adventures include mountain biking the ridgelines and all the way down into the valleys below, ice fishing and skiing. All of our Montana adventures include breathtaking scenery. Most also feature mountaintop vistas and secluded valleys where cell phones don't work and the only blackberries around are the wild ones growing at your feet.

Rustic Montana has recently gained a reputation for some of the newest and most beautiful golf courses in the nation. If your idea Montana adventure includes the opportunity to golf amidst a backdrop of scenic mountains and natural water hazards, Triple Dare can take you there.

Rodeos, Native American festivals and first-rate arts and craft exhibitions are all offered in Montana. We know where the best are and when they take place. Triple Dare can customize a Montana experience to match the leisure needs or adventure limits of your entire group.

"Our group of eight met on Saturday afternoon at Quinn's Hot Springs Lodge located about mid-way between Missoula and Boise. Brian from Triple Dare greeted us, provided a briefing about the adventure-filled week ahead and made sure we had the right gear.

We spent the rest of the day soaking in the hot springs, fishing/swimming in the Clark Fork River, hiking and lounging by the pool. Dinner was at a rustic sports bar/restaurant located in the Lodge. Most of us slept each night under the brilliant Montana stars. Two of our "city slicker" companions elected for accommodations in the Lodge.

On Sunday morning we met Todd Earp (Virgil Earps's great, great great grandson).  Todd was our wrangler and led our group by horseback into the backcountry for three days to fish, hike, swim and view the wildlife. The ride in of about two hours was spectacular… We saw moose, deer, elk and even a black bear! Our "spike camp" home was beside an incredibly beautiful stream with trout visible to the naked eye in almost every hole. I knew the fishing would be good, but this was incredible!

On Monday, some of us hiked along the stream to a small lake with our fly rods in hand—stopping to fish whenever we had the urge. It felt like we were the only people on Earth. Our only competition was from an occasional osprey diving and scooping up an unlucky trout. We ate lunch by an alpine lake surrounded by mountain peaks and watched deer drinking from the opposite shore. That night, a cow moose strolled through our camp, stopping to share a little hay with our horses. They didn't seem to mind, but seemed perplexed as to what kind of horse she was!

We returned to the "Hole In the Wall Lodge," another incredible lodge in the backcountry, for two nights. From here, we each found our own version of paradise— three of us went whitewater rafting, three played golf and two hiked and did a little mountain biking.

I ended up going to a real rodeo and some of us did some shopping for hand made Native American jewelry and other local goodies.

Triple Dare planned and matched our abilities with what we wanted to do and the coordination was perfect. There was never time for a dull moment—unless we wanted it!  We are already planning a summer 2008 Costa Rica trip with Triple Dare."
